October 7, 2016: Read all about it! The New Westminster Record this week shared several school-related stories, including about fundraising efforts at Lord Kelvin Elementary School where a "whopping" $385.55 was raised by the students during the school’s annual Terry Fox Run held last week. The funds will go to the Terry Fox Foundation to support cancer research. Terry's sister Judith was there to inspire the kids, thanks to teacher Stephanie Musgrove who organized the event.

There were also stories about:

  • celebrating teachers:  For World Teachers’ Day, parents at Lord Kelvin Elementary school organized a pop-up waffle breakfast bar on October 5 to say 'thanks a waffle lot" for the dedicated work of the teaching staff.  The event was the brainchild of parent advisory council president Natalie Lawy.
  • the seismic upgrades taking place at F.W. Howay. Work is underway at F.W. Howay Elementary to make the 55-year-old school better able to withstand an earthquake. The $4 million porject began in the summer and includes renovations to the school plus improvements to its infrastructure, district superintendent Pat Duncan told the Record.
