Heart Garden

On June 1st, 2016, several classes at École Glenbrook Middle School planted a 'Heart Garden' outside their school.  Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams is an initiative that invites organizations and individuals to plant a garden of hearts to honour residential school survivors and those children who were lost to the residential school system.

Students completed a study of the residential school system in Canada and the generational effects of its abuse.  After recognizing the suffering and the loss of Aboriginal culture, language and identity, our students felt a deeper sense of empathy for the affected families and a greater understanding for the suffering caused by residential schooling.

The 'Heart Garden' is a living memorial for the survivors of residential schools and has served to renew our students' commitment to help in the reconciliation process.
